CONVERTING SEG-FORMATTED DATA FILES TO ASCII COLUMNAR
FORMAT USING THE TAPE.EXE UTILITY

Sometimes it is useful to convert SEG files to ASCII. The Tape.exe can be used to do this conversion,
following these steps:
1) Open the SEG file you wish to convert:

2) Select Save Displayed Data to ASCII Fil.
3) Choose the format of your ASCII file. We recommend exporting the channel number, which will
be the first number in each column. We also recommend converting to mV. The descaling factor
in the SEG header will account for any difference in gains, giving you true amplitude at the
geophone. You may export all traces into a single file or open a new file for each individual
trace. In the latter choice, a 24-channel record would result in 24 ASCII files. The file name will
default to the same as the SEG file name with a .txt extension.
