INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
This brochure provides a summary of general
parking rules within the city. It is not intended to
be all-inclusive. Governing code detailing
parking laws within the city can be found in
Chapter 454 and Chapter 407 of the codified
Ordinances of the City of Newark, Ohio.
PARKING ENFORCEMENT
Newark Police Officers will monitor all public
parking in downtown Newark between the hours
of 7:30 AM 5:00 PM Monday Friday, excluding
holidays, to ensure enforcement of all parking
ordinances. Officers will be using handheld
scanning devices which input vehicle’s license
plate numbers and exact GPS location. The
devices will identify if a vehicle has been parked
in the same timed-zone for more than the
allowable time as specified in the parking
ordinance.
FREE ALL DAY PARKING
Free all day parking is available throughout the
city for extended stay visitors, downtown
residents and downtown employees. The map
identifies the long term street parking areas,
public lot parking and the parking garage. All
extended parking areas are a very short walk
from the Square.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is parking free in Downtown Newark?
All downtown Newark City public parking is FREE.
However, in the business district, time limits are
enforced. Please observe all parking areas for
time limits.
Can I move my car every 2 hours to avoid a
parking ticket/violation?
No. The scanning device used by the officers will
record your exact vehicle location through GPS.
Your time only resets after your vehicle has been
completely removed from the 2 HOUR ZONE for
over a 2 hour period of time. The 2 HOUR free
parking zones are identified by street signs, on
the attached map and in section 454.09(d).
Where to park for jury duty?
Jurors are instructed by the Municipal Court to
use their parking pass when appearing for jury
duty. Please post as instructed in your vehicle.
