Northeast Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Walker died Sunday in her home. Born in Jackson County, Tennessee,

she lived here 50 years, retiring in 1968 after 15 years in the house-keeping department at the Indiana

University Medical Center. She was affiliated with Second Christian Church and was a member of the

Elks Lodge 104. Survivors include two sons, Chester A., and Lawrence R. Walker, and two daughters,

Marion A. Black and Patricia A. Smith.

On October 7, 2004, Sheriff David Andrews of Putnam County, sent Deputy John Nash,

and a crew of low risk detainees, to clean up Rock Hill cemetery, a totally Black

cemetery in Silver Point, TN. Some of the slate markers are more than 200 years old,

and many of my ancestors rest there, including my grandparents. My grandmother (1881

-1962), was the last person buried there. My elderly mother (78) cried, and watched in

awe, as they worked. Tennessee is an exceptional state.
